Kogi Governor Unveils Plan for 2024 Budget and Development

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has unveiled his administration’s ambitious budget plan for 2024, presenting an estimated budget of N258.2 billion to the State House of Assembly. The proposed budget consists of N145.73 billion for recurrent expenditure and N112.54 billion for capital expenditure, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s budget allocation.

Under the theme “2024 Budget of Consolidation and Continuity for Inclusive Growth”, Governor Bello aims to build upon the achievements of the previous fiscal year. He has expressed his determination to recover the state’s equity shares in Obajana cement and attract private sector investments to drive growth and development in the state.

In his address to the State House of Assembly, Governor Bello expressed his gratitude for their dedication to the welfare of the people of Kogi State and urged them to extend their cooperation to the incoming administration, under Governor-Elect Usman Ododo.

The primary objectives of the 2024 budget include improving the quality and accessibility of education, enhancing healthcare delivery systems, ensuring food security, and promoting sustainable economic development. Furthermore, the administration aims to create employment opportunities for the youth, develop the state’s cultural and tourism sector, and establish a robust Mining and Solid Minerals Sector.

Governor Bello also emphasised the importance of addressing environmental challenges such as pollution, deforestation, flooding, and gully erosion to ensure the sustainable management of the state’s natural resources.

Acknowledging the collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of the government, Speaker Aliyu Umar Yusuf expressed appreciation for the leadership of Governor Bello and assured a seamless transition for the incoming administration. He also pledged to work closely with government agencies to ensure the thorough examination and expeditious passage of the proposed budget.

The Governor’s commitment to driving economic growth in Kogi State has received praise from President Bola Tinubu, who commended his leadership and the difficult decisions made for the benefit of all Nigerians.
