Protecting Vulnerable Landscapes Around the World

0

We are dedicated to the protection of vital landscapes and ecosystems that are under threat from deforestation, mining, logging, and infrastructure projects, all of which pose a grave risk to their survival. Our efforts are global in scope, focusing on advocating for systemic change in the supply chains of our food and products, with a strong emphasis on the preservation of the earth and the protection of human rights.

In Latin America, our primary focus lies in the preservation of the Amazon and Cerrado, as well as other invaluable ecosystems. The Amazon rainforest is currently on the verge of an irreversible tipping point, with extensive areas at risk of transforming into dry savannahs. Moreover, over half of the Cerrado has been devastated by cattle and animal feed companies. This destruction not only impacts the environment but also endangers the lives of the people and wildlife that rely on these ecosystems. The meat industry has been identified as the main driver of deforestation in these regions.

In Africa, our efforts are directed towards safeguarding crucial ecosystems from destructive agricultural practices. The Upper Guinean tropical forests in West Africa are under significant pressure from mining and farming, particularly cocoa, palm oil, and rubber cultivation. Our focus is on safeguarding the region’s biodiversity hotspot and addressing the expansion of cashew farming. Additionally, the Lower Guinean and Western Congo Basin forests in West Central Africa are threatened by large-scale rubber and palm oil plantations, illegal timber extraction, and mining. We are actively collaborating with local partners to address these challenges and restore native forests and wildlife habitats.

In the Asia Pacific region, we are striving to combat deforestation and promote the decarbonization of industries such as steel and aluminum. Southeast Asia has experienced extensive deforestation driven by the palm oil and pulp and paper industries, leading to the destruction of millions of hectares of forests. The demand for rubber further exacerbates deforestation in the region. Our objective is to hold the industry accountable and promote restoration and conservation efforts.

Our work is of vital importance, particularly as the protection of the Brazilian Cerrado remains incomplete, Southeast Asia is home to the majority of the world’s ultra-carbon-rich tropical peat swamps, and Africa has already undergone a significant area of tropical deforestation in 2022 alone.

We require your support in making a meaningful impact. By signing our petition, you can urge the world’s largest meat processing company to sever ties with suppliers contributing to deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon. Additionally, taking action against the construction of the Batang Toru Dam in Indonesia, which poses a threat to the survival of the Tapanuli orangutan, can have a substantial impact.

Join us in our mission to protect these vulnerable landscapes and ensure a sustainable future for our planet. Let us make our voices heard and work towards a world where environmental conservation is a top priority.
