Nigeria and Czech Republic Enter Into $21.7 Million Delta-2 Projects Agreement
The National Agency for Science and Technology Infrastructure (NASENI) of Nigeria and the Technology Agency of Czech Republic (TACR) have recently entered into a bilateral implementation agreement valued at $21.7 million for the Delta-2 projects. This agreement signifies the renewal of collaborative endeavours between the two nations.
The Delta-2 programme will commence a Co-funding R&D Project, marking a pivotal stride towards accomplishing the objectives of bilateral cooperation and initiating tangible measures towards diversifying Nigeria’s economy. Launched in 2001, the project aims to facilitate the transfer of technology between the two countries.
According to Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, the $21.7 million funding for the selected projects will be allocated by TACR with $11.7 million and NASENI with $10 million. Halilu stressed the significance of the Delta-2 project, particularly noting the directive from the President to furnish an update and progress report on the programme.
Furthermore, the government of Edo State, under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki, has introduced a complimentary bus services scheme in response to the fuel subsidy removal. The scheme has proven to be successful, benefiting over 2.3 million people within the initial three months of its implementation. This initiative has notably mitigated the transportation burden on citizens, encompassing both intra and intercity travel.
Additionally, Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has been making substantial contributions to Nigeria’s content development, with an average annual contribution of N1 billion. Esimaje Brikinn, the General Manager Policy, Government and Public Affairs of CNL, emphasized this commitment to enhancing local content development during a capacity training for journalists. The partnership between CNL and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) underscores the company’s dedication to investing in local talent and resources.
In light of these developments, it is evident that Nigeria is making strides in both international cooperation and domestic welfare initiatives. With the signing of the Delta-2 projects agreement, the country is positioned to benefit from enhanced technology transfer and research and development efforts. Furthermore, the implementation of the complimentary bus services scheme and continuous support from corporate entities like Chevron Nigeria Limited are contributing to the overall well-being and advancement of the nation.
