NSCDC Busts Illegal Miners and Railway Vandals in Abuja
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT, Abuja Command has announced significant arrests in the nation’s capital. Two railway vandals and eleven illegal miners were apprehended in separate operations.
The railway vandals were apprehended in the act of vandalising rail tracks and traffic lights in the Wuye Area of the territory. This arrest was carried out by the Operatives of the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure unit of the command.
In collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the NSCDC FCT Command arrested eleven suspects involved in illegal mining activities at Izom, a community located at the boundary of FCT and Niger State.
The suspects were paraded at the Command headquarters, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, where the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, addressed the proactive measures taken by the Command to combat criminal activities within the territory.
According to Odumosu, the Command is dedicated to tackling various forms of criminality, particularly vandalism of Critical National Assets and other public infrastructure, illegal mining activities, and other related crimes.
He emphasised the serious threats posed by economic sabotage through illegal exploitation of the nation’s mineral resources to the ecosystem and the well-being of the host communities. The apprehended suspects are currently being investigated and will subsequently be charged to court.
Furthermore, Odumosu issued a stern warning to individuals involved in criminal activities, stating that there is no tolerance for such crimes within the FCT. This warning is directed at vandals of critical national assets, illegal miners, one chance syndicate, scavengers, and kidnappers.
The Commandant assured that there is no hiding place for perpetrators of criminal activities, and active efforts are underway to apprehend their masterminds who are still at large.
