Optimising Christmas Travels With FG-Subsidised Transport Logistics

Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has confirmed the finalisation of logistics for the upcoming 50 per cent discount on road transport across 22 major routes in Nigeria. This initiative, scheduled to commence from 21 December, aims to alleviate the financial strain of holiday travel for Nigerians.

In collaboration with the Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, the Information and National Orientation Minister, Mohammed Idris, and the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Mr Alake announced the implementation of this subsidised yuletide Inter-state transport. Moreover, he also revealed that railway travel will be free from 21 December to 4 January 2024.

The structured Luxury Buses Association of Nigeria has been enlisted by the federal government to execute the discounted fares on the designated routes. This meticulous planning ensures that the initiative will be effectively executed, providing much-needed relief to travellers during the festive season.

Meanwhile, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Ojo, highlighted the crucial role of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the new security measures being implemented to safeguard mining sites. Emphasising the unwavering collaboration with the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Mr Ojo reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of these sites.

The announcement of reduced transport costs comes as a welcome relief for many Nigerians who often face exorbitant prices during the holidays. With the assurance of affordable travel options and enhanced security measures, the government is prioritising the well-being and convenience of its citizens during this festive period.

As the initiative prepares to take effect, the specified routes for the subsidised transport will be announced imminently, allowing travellers to plan their journeys accordingly.
