NSCDC Cracks Down on Criminal Activities in Cross River, Secures Convictions

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has been diligently carrying out its duties in Cross River State, resulting in a total of 63 arrests in 2023 for various criminal activities such as illegal mining, armoured cable theft, public infrastructure vandalism, and crude oil theft.

In a press interview conducted in Calabar, the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Charles Brown, disclosed that the majority of the arrested individuals were granted administrative bail. However, six suspects were prosecuted, leading to four convictions. Investigations are still ongoing for 12 of the arrested individuals, while eight remain in the custody of the NSCDC. The remaining suspects were either discharged or granted administrative bail.

During their operations, the command successfully recovered 17.1mm armoured cable that had been vandalized by the suspects. In addition, they seized 20 drums of petrol and two articulated vehicles loaded with crude oil.

Mr Brown emphasized the unwavering commitment of the command to fulfilling its mandate and appealed for support from the general public. He issued a stern warning to those involved in criminal activities, making it clear that Cross River is no longer a safe haven for such illicit deeds.

The NSCDC’s proactive measures to combat criminal activities in Cross River demonstrate their steadfast dedication to upholding the law and safeguarding public infrastructure. Through their diligence, they have achieved convictions and made significant progress in tackling illegal activities within the state.
