The Ongoing Fight Against Corruption in Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration are rigorously pursuing the recovery and repatriation of Nigeria’s illicitly obtained funds stashed in foreign jurisdictions. This resolute commitment was articulated by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, during the inauguration of the new office complex of the Ilorin zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Fagbemi underscored the government’s unwavering resolve to eradicate corruption in Nigeria and its firm belief in the pivotal role the EFCC plays in achieving this objective. He also hinted at potential legal reforms designed to bolster the commission’s investigative and asset recovery endeavours.

Furthermore, the AGF emphasised the imperative of executing responsibilities in strict conformity with the Rule of Law and urged EFCC personnel to exhibit professionalism in discharging their duties. He also underscored that combating corruption is paramount for the advancement and growth of the country, both in the public and private sectors.

The Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, echoed the determination to recalibrate the anti-corruption crusade, placing a heightened focus on economic progress and development for the betterment of all Nigerians. He accentuated the significance of the newly inaugurated office complex, underscoring that it symbolises the government’s steadfast dedication to the fight against corruption, propelled by political fortitude.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state reiterated the national commitment to combatting corruption, emphasising the paramount importance of institutional backing for this cause. He acknowledged his administration’s efforts to reinforce the capabilities of government officials in public financial management and compliance with anti-corruption policies.

The event was attended by a multitude of eminent individuals, encompassing members of the state executive council, Federal and State Legislators, heads of security and law enforcement agencies, among others.

The inauguration of this office complex signifies a pivotal stride in enhancing the operational capacity of the EFCC and underscores the resolute determination of the government to effectively combat corruption.
