President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is resolute in his efforts to eradicate corruption and recover Nigeria’s illicit funds hidden in foreign jurisdictions. The inauguration of the Ilorin zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ilorin was marked by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), who underscored Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to this cause.

Fagbemi underscored the pivotal role of the EFCC in the tracing, recovery, and repatriation of stolen assets back to Nigeria. He also highlighted Tinubu’s strong resolve to stamp out corruption from the nation, with the EFCC serving as a vital instrument in achieving this objective. He further outlined plans for fostering governmental accountability to the Nigerian public and bolstering mechanisms for achieving this aim.

In order to realize these aims, the government intends to introduce reforms that will enhance the EFCC’s capacity to recover assets under strengthened legal frameworks. The AGF also emphasized the importance of conducting the affairs of the anti-graft agency within the confines of the law. Similarly, the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, urged his team to vigorously cleanse the business environment and bolster endeavors to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by combatting various forms of malfeasance.

Olukoyede described the new state-of-the-art Zonal Command’s office, which is now operational, as a culmination of a long-held aspiration. The Ilorin Command of the EFCC holds a vital role in combatting financial crimes in the mining sector and is a key player in implementing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the solid minerals sector.

The Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, expressed solidarity with the anti-corruption crusade and lauded the EFCC for its efforts in combating financial crimes. He also highlighted his administration’s recent training initiatives aimed at keeping government officials abreast of pertinent issues in public financial management, sustainability reporting, and tax fraud. Additionally, he commended the EFCC for its ongoing anti-corruption initiatives.

The new office complex is equipped to provide office accommodation for staff across all categories, along with purpose-built interrogation rooms and a holding facility for suspects.
