Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, the Managing Director of Plembeck Emirates Limited, a Global Renewable Energy Company, from Nigeria, has emphasised the necessity for Nigeria to move away from its heavy reliance on oil and diversify its economy. In a recent interview, Zaura stressed that Nigeria possesses a wealth of resources beyond oil, particularly in the solid minerals sector, which has the potential to significantly contribute to economic prosperity.

Zaura, who also holds the position of CEO at Brainscom Limited, highlighted the potential of the solid minerals sector to contribute more to Nigeria’s economic growth than oil, provided that a conducive environment is created for both local and foreign investors. He pointed out that when he first entered the mining industry in 2004, there were no significant security issues until political factors began to dominate, causing increased instability.

According to Zaura, the rise in violence and insecurity in areas abundant with mineral resources, such as Niger and Zamfara, is a result of political factors rather than natural occurrences. He emphasised the crucial role of government intervention in addressing these security challenges and creating a safe environment for investment in the solid minerals sector.

Zaura urged the federal government to prioritise the exploration and exploitation of solid minerals and provide enhanced security in areas with mineral deposits in order to attract more investors to the mining industry. By ensuring a secure environment for investors, Nigeria can unlock the economic potential of its solid minerals sector and reduce its heavy reliance on oil as the primary source of revenue.

In conclusion, Zaura called on the government to recognise the abundant resources beyond oil and take proactive measures to diversify the economy. By providing security and support for investment in the solid minerals sector, Nigeria can pave the way for sustainable economic growth and prosperity.
