Federal Poly Offa Lands Huge Research Grant in Collaboration with Czech Republic
The Federal Polytechnic Offa is pleased to announce an important development in collaboration with the Czech Republic. Nigeria has successfully secured a significant research grant to bolster projects in Agriculture, Mining, and General Manufacturing. This partnership falls under the Nigeria/Czech Republic Joint Research and Development Fund, with the Federal Polytechnic Offa being selected as a recipient.
The formalization of the funding and implementation agreements took place at the Technology Orientation Centre, NASENI Headquarters, Abuja. This signifies the commencement of the Delta-2 Program, which involves the allocation of funding to chosen projects.
During the welcoming speech, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NASENI, expressed enthusiasm for the Delta-2 Programme. He underscored NASENI’s dedication to reshaping Nigeria’s technology and innovation landscape. Mr. Halilu stressed the importance of bringing the outcomes of this partnership to the market, ensuring their commercial availability for the benefit of consumers and end-users.
Out of 285 proposals submitted by various tertiary institutions and organizations, 55 were shortlisted for the second stage, and 25 were selected for the final stage. Notably, the Federal Polytechnic Offa is the sole Polytechnic chosen among the eleven partner organizations/institutions recommended for funding in Nigeria.
The Polytechnic’s project, titled “Aeroponics Farming,” will concentrate on the commercial production of tomatoes. This initiative aligns with the goal of generating employment opportunities and serving as a source of revenue for the institution.
In response to this achievement, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin FNSE, lauded the Federal Government’s initiative on technological advancement and expressed gratitude for the investment in research, development, and innovation through NASENI. Dr. Kadiri underscored the significance of this grant for the institution, acknowledging the opportunity it presents for technological advancement in the areas of Agriculture, Mining, and General Manufacturing. He assured that the funds would be utilized judiciously for the intended project.
The selected projects also encompass bioethanol production, aeroponics farming, the conversion of banana stem into hair extensions, agro-waste conversion, potato farming, industrial wastewater purification, and the development of natural fibre-reinforced plastic, among others.
