Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Kogi State Leads to Arrest of 10 Miners and Confiscation of Trucks
The government of Kogi state has made a resolute stand against illegal mining activities by apprehending 10 miners operating unlawfully in the Ankpa local government area. This development was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashiru Gegu, during an enforcement operation carried out in accordance with Governor Yahaya Bello’s directive to clamp down on illegal mining across the state.
The crackdown, which is part of the ‘Stop Illegal Mining’ initiative in Kogi State, has seen the government seize over 50 trucks transporting coal illegally with the assistance of the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes.
