The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has reported a significant progress in its efforts to combat criminal activities in the area. Mr. Olusola Odumosu, the NSCDC Commandant in FCT, revealed that a total of 82 suspected vandals and 22 illegal miners have been apprehended over the past four months.

During a recent interview in Abuja, Odumosu provided detailed figures on the arrests. He stated that 20 individuals were arrested for their involvement in the theft of manhole covers and vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure. Additionally, five suspects were detained in September for allegedly vandalizing electrical cables, while 14 others were held for vandalism of other public property. Furthermore, two individuals were arrested for the alleged theft of televisions.

The remaining suspects were apprehended for a range of crimes, including 28 individuals accused of railway vandalism and destruction of critical national assets. In October, 11 individuals were captured for engaging in illegal mining, and in December, 11 illegal miners and two vandals were paraded.

Under Odumosu’s leadership, the command took action against three Private Guard Companies (PGCs) for various offenses, such as operating without a license and failing to renew licenses.

Looking forward, Odumosu expressed the command’s determination to intensify efforts in 2024 to crack down on vandals, illegal PGC operators, and miscreants within the FCT.

The NSCDC’s proactive and decisive actions are commendable, as they contribute significantly to the maintenance of law and order, as well as the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure. Given the increasing threats posed by criminal elements, the efforts to combat vandalism and illegal mining are of paramount importance in maintaining the security and well-being of residents in the region.

In conclusion, the NSCDC’s efforts to combat vandalism and illegal mining in the FCT are a testament to the organization’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
