Nigeria’s Ministry of Solid Minerals Development Partners with PricewaterhouseCoopers on Sector Transformation
The Government of Nigeria is poised to collaborate with the leading consulting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), in order to implement the policies outlined in the seven-point roadmap aimed at revolutionising the solid minerals sector.
In a meeting with PwC representative, Mr. Habeeb Jaiyeola, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, commended the firm for its participation in the recently concluded Nigerian Mining Week and the initial phase of the bitumen concession programme. Mr. Alake expressed his gratitude to PwC for its longstanding contribution to the mining sector and assured that the company’s expertise and perspectives will be taken into consideration in the sector’s reforms and the execution of the seven-point agenda.
The Minister emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s prioritization of the sector as a pivotal factor in efforts to revitalize the country’s economy for long-term prosperity.
In response, Mr. Jaiyeola conveyed PwC’s willingness to collaborate with the ministry in achieving the objectives of the agenda, which aims to position solid minerals as a key sector in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Nigeria. He stated, “We presented our insights on the seven-point agenda, providing recommendations on how to actualize its goals while advising on potential pitfalls and how to avoid them. It is essential that, by the end of the administration’s tenure, there are clear deliverables that can be monitored, along with a roadmap detailing how each objective will be accomplished and projected. We are open to further discussions on how to proceed and compare notes.”
The minister had previously unveiled the seven-point agenda, titled “Agenda for the Transformation of the Solid Minerals Sector for International Competitiveness and Domestic Prosperity,” which encompasses the establishment of the Nigerian Solid Minerals Corporation, the compilation of comprehensive data on seven priority minerals and their deposits, and the holistic review of all mining licenses, among other initiatives.
Segun Tomori, Special Assistant, Media to the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, announced this development on October 22, 2023.
