The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made a public announcement regarding the apprehension of two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian individual for their involvement in illegal mining operations within Nigeria. The agency has identified the Chinese individuals as Yang Chao and Xiao Jiang, and their Nigerian accomplice as Joseph Osuji.

It has come to light that these individuals were actively engaged in the illegal mining of minerals such as marble stone, white powder, lithium, and lepidolite, which were being illicitly smuggled out of the country. The EFCC has disclosed that Mr. Yang and Mr. Osuji were employed as a factory manager and machine operator, respectively, at Cruis Chemical Nigeria Limited in Ogun, while Mr. Xiao served as an assistant manager at John Odiba Multibiz, also located in Ogun.

Moreover, the three suspects have been linked to the ownership of the solid minerals that were confiscated from 41 other individuals who were recently apprehended by the EFCC. These individuals were found in possession of truckloads of minerals in various locations across the states of Kwara and Oyo, specifically in Share, Banni, Lade, Patigi, Okolowo, Igbeti, and Ogbomosho.

The EFCC has reported that the apprehension of the suspects was made possible through extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering, resulting in their arrest at their mining sites in Ogunmakin and Ogere, Ogun state. The agency is diligently working to crackdown on illegal mining activities and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
