Collaborating for Better Mining Operations

The Nigerian government is teaming up with local communities to make mining operations more efficient. The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. OlaDele Alake, had a chat with the President of Kogi State Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Ata Matthew Opaluwa, and they both agreed that working together is the way forward. Dr. Alake made it clear that peace and cooperation are key to attracting more investments in the mining sector. He also mentioned that the government is stepping up security measures to tackle current challenges and making sure that communities get their fair share from mining activities. On the other hand, HRH Opaluwa praised the Minister’s efforts but raised concerns about unlicensed miners causing security issues. He also called for more involvement of traditional rulers in protecting the interests of the people. In response, Dr. Alake promised to strengthen the Ministry’s Mines Inspectorate to verify mining agreements and involve traditional rulers in the signing process. Additionally, plans are in place to revamp the Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO) for better performance. It’s all about making sure that communities get what they deserve and that mining operations run smoothly.
