Nigeria Welcomes New Envoys with Focus on Mining and Education
President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria recently convened with the High Commissioner of Australia, Leilani Bin-Juda, alongside the Ambassadors of Jamaica and Romania to reiterate his nation’s dedication to bolstering diplomatic relations and collaboration in the domains of education, mining, culture, and tourism.
Throughout the discussions, President Tinubu conveyed his appreciation for the enduring bond between Nigeria and Australia and pledged Nigeria’s backing for the successful tenure of the new envoys in the country. In the meeting with the High Commissioner of Jamaica, Lincoln Downer, President Tinubu underscored the importance of cooperation in trade, investment, and the Technical Aids Corps. Moreover, he emphasised Nigeria’s preparedness to revive energy collaboration with Jamaica, particularly in the context of climate change and the use of gas as a transition fuel.
Additionally, President Tinubu acknowledged the aligned values and interests shared between Nigeria and Australia, given their active membership in the United Nations, the Commonwealth, and other multilateral institutions. He stressed the necessity to reinforce collaboration in the mining sector, following recent initiatives by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, to deepen ties between the two nations in this sphere.
In response, the Australian High Commissioner expressed eagerness for expanded collaboration during her tenure in Nigeria and extended an invitation to President Tinubu to consider visiting Australia during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
Simultaneously, the Romanian Ambassador reaffirmed his dedication to fortifying ties between Nigeria and Romania, particularly in the realms of education, energy, and defence, and unveiled plans to augment scholarships for prospective Nigerian students interested in pursuing studies in Romania.
The President welcomed the Ambassador’s proposals and assured him that Nigeria would explore additional opportunities for cooperation with Romania, also mentioning the nation’s willingness to intensify mutual cooperation in the field of education.
