Nigeria’s top oil and gas industry ministers are scheduled to participate in the upcoming NOG Energy Week 2024. This esteemed event, now in its 23rd year, will provide a platform for the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) to share insights into the government’s plans to strengthen Nigeria’s energy sector.
The Executive Order issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has opened the door for promising opportunities in the country’s gas sector. This order, which includes fiscal incentives for non-associated gas, midstream, and deepwater developments, aims to provide a clearer policy direction for exploration and production within the gas industry.
Nigeria, already a significant player in Africa’s oil and gas market, boasts substantial natural gas reserves, ranking as the ninth largest in the world. In a recent announcement, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) revealed that the country’s gas reserves currently stand at 208 trillion cubic feet, with the potential to increase production to more than 5 billion cubic feet per day. The Executive Order is expected to provide the much-needed policy clarity and direction necessary for informed decision-making, funding, and infrastructure development within the sector.
During a recent retreat to outline strategies to achieve the targets set by President Tinubu, H.E. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), emphasized the importance of widespread gas adoption across various sectors. Ekpo noted that the transition to gas as a cleaner alternative for power generation, industrial processes, transportation, and household use is crucial. He highlighted initiatives such as the ‘Decade of Gas Initiative’ as integral to promoting the use of gas through targeted interventions, infrastructure development, and policy incentives.
To bring these directives to fruition, robust collaboration is essential, and this is precisely what NOG Energy Week 2024 aims to foster. With the theme “Showcasing Opportunities. Driving Investment. Meeting Energy Demand.”, this event will provide a platform to explore unique opportunities for industry transformation, legislative advancement, technological innovation, in-country capacity development, and the realization of energy sufficiency targets.
Scheduled to take place from 30 June – 4 July 2024 at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja, NOG Energy Week 2024 is expected to host decision-makers and stakeholders from across the global energy sector. The event, which is West Africa’s leading Conference and Exhibition for the global energy industry, will gather Presidents, Ministers, Heads Of Government Agencies, Investors, and CEOs for networking and partnership opportunities.
A stellar lineup of government officials and industry leaders is expected to grace the event, including H.E. Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), and H.E. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), among others. The event will feature presentations, panel discussions, and networking sessions focused on funding projects, the significance of natural gas, increasing oil and gas production, and strategies to overcome challenges in the industry for economic growth.
