FG Targets Illegal Mining: Nine Arraigned, Including Eight Chinese Nationals

The Federal Government has taken a decisive step against illegal mining by arraigning nine individuals, including eight Chinese nationals and one Nigerian, in Abuja.

Key details:
– The suspects were arrested in Lokpaukwu community, Abia State, by the Mining Marshals, a special unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
– This operation, named “Operation Hayakin Kogo,” was initiated by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, as part of a broader strategy to clean up the mining sector.
– The trial commenced before Justice J.K Omotosho, with a 3-count charge that includes mining without lawful authority and obstructing lawful mining operations.
– The defendants, whose names include SHEN YONGCHAN, MO BAIXIAN, and others, have been remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre until the next court date.
– The Mining Marshals, comprising 2,570 personnel, are focused on dismantling illegal mining activities across Nigeria, with plans for technological advancements to enhance their effectiveness.
