Joining Forces Against Corruption in Nigeria’s Resource Sectors

The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) have teamed up to tackle corruption in the oil, gas, and mining sectors. This collaboration was confirmed during a visit by NEITI’s Executive Secretary, Ogbonnaya Orji, and the Executive Chairman of EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Orji, in a statement released by NEITI in Abuja, highlighted the purpose of the visit as strengthening the partnership and cooperation between the two anti-corruption agencies. The focus is on sharing information and data, as well as collaborating on the investigation and prosecution of financial crimes within the oil, gas, and mining industries.

The visit was prompted by the recent change in leadership at the commission and the significance of maintaining the existing alliances and support. This is in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between EFCC and NEITI in 2021.

Orji also emphasized to the new EFCC chairman that the MoU outlines the close collaboration between EFCC and NEITI to ensure full compliance of companies and government agencies with NEITI processes. It also involves implementing the findings and recommendations of NEITI industry reports.
