Nigeria Gears Up to Unveil Mining Potential at African Mining Week

Nigeria will showcase its mining potential at African Mining Week 2025 in Cape Town. The event will spotlight ongoing projects and investment opportunities. A recent agreement with South Africa is set to boost local mining efforts. Various companies are currently exploring key resources, underscoring Nigeria’s rich mineral wealth and its ambition to become a mining powerhouse on the continent.
Nigeria is set to highlight its mining potential at the upcoming African Mining Week (AMW), which takes place in Cape Town from October 1 to 3, 2025. The event will have a special session dedicated to showcasing Nigeria’s ongoing projects and investment opportunities, which aim to enhance its status as a burgeoning mining hub in Africa.
Public and private sectors are uniting to tap into Nigeria’s vast mineral resources, which could diversify the economy. Just this past April, a cooperation agreement was signed with South Africa, known for its robust mining industry, aimed at facilitating investment and knowledge transfer. This collaboration is anticipated to fast-track Nigeria’s mining advancement by leveraging South Africa’s experience.
On-site activities are underway as Titan Minerals is actively exploring phosphate in Sokoto, bitumen in Edo and Ondo, and gold along the Schist Belt. The company is also looking for partners to develop new deposits of gold, base metals, and platinum group metals. Meanwhile, Thor Explorations has started drilling underground at the Segilola Gold Mine, Nigeria’s first-ever large-scale gold operation, with targets set to boost production to between 85,000 and 95,000 ounces by 2025.
In an effort to attract new investments, Nigeria has recommenced exploration activities for gold, lithium, and copper in Zamfara as of early 2025. The nation’s rich mineral stock includes approximately 42.5 billion tons of probable bitumen, 10.6 billion tons of limestone, 2.75 billion tons of coal, over 3 billion tons of iron ore, and around 21.4 metric tons of gold. These assets significantly increase Nigeria’s attractiveness as a possible mining powerhouse.
AMW 2025 serves as a critical platform for Nigeria to present its advancements and attract investors looking to be part of Africa’s mining future. Apart from highlighting major projects, the event will encourage discussions on crucial areas like policy formulation, infrastructure improvements, and the collaborative efforts necessary to maximize the mining industry’s potential. With a rise in global interest, Nigeria is gearing up to become a key player in sustainable mineral development.
Taking place alongside AMW, the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2025 conference will also occur from October 1-3 in Cape Town. Interested sponsors, exhibitors, and delegates can get more information by reaching out to [email protected].
