He was on a one-day tour of the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency (NSRMEA) in Kaduna, and he was joined by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Steel Development/Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Mary Ogbe. They both stressed how important the steel sector is for any country’s industrial growth. They also talked about how the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency plays a crucial role in finding steel raw materials, which are not just important for industries but also for progress, infrastructure, innovation, and national development.
Ahmadu mentioned that Nigeria’s resources have a lot of potential and can bring prosperity to the country. He appreciated the efforts of the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency in exploring, innovating, and practicing sustainable mining. He assured the agency of the ministry’s full support to improve its operations and make progress. He also talked about the government’s commitment to forming partnerships, investing in research, and creating an environment that helps in the sustainable development of the country’s mineral resources.
Ogbe also talked about the ministry’s dedication to reviving and optimizing the steel sector. She said that the ministry, under capable ministers, is determined to fulfill its responsibilities. She asked for the support of all stakeholders to contribute their best efforts to bring the sector back to life.
The director-general of NSRMEA, Kolawole Ogunbiyi, gave some insights into the status of the Obi-Lafia coal in Nasarawa State. He stressed the need for its full development to make it economically viable. He explained that in-seam exploration is important to determine if the coal resources can be mined. He asked the Federal Government to allocate a special fund to complete the Obi-Lafia coal project, saying that it would reduce the need to import cooking coal.
The minister’s visit to the NSRMEA, along with the permanent secretary, shows the government’s determination to revive the steel sector and make sure it works at its best.
