Nigeria Drops $1.1 Billion Claim Against Eni

Nigeria has decided to drop a $1.1 billion claim against Eni, the Italian energy giant, related to allegations of corruption in an oilfield deal. The country’s justice ministry will waive the claims before Italy’s highest court without any conditions and with immediate effect. Eni has confirmed receiving the letter regarding the OPL 245 field and expressed its satisfaction with Nigeria’s decision. The energy group is now prepared to work with the Nigerian government to move forward with the necessary steps for the development of the oilfield. In a separate case, a Milan court acquitted Eni, its CEO, and Shell of corruption charges related to the acquisition of the Nigerian oilfield.
