Illegal mining is becoming a big problem in Nigeria, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is not happy about it. The State Commandant of NSCDC, Muhammad Bello Mu’azu, said that his team caught three people doing illegal mining in Akko Local Government Area. These guys were digging without the right permission from the government, and that’s a big no-no. Mu’azu explained that illegal mining causes a lot of bad things like messing up the environment, making the soil erode, cutting down trees, polluting the water, and causing security issues all over the country. The NSCDC is not playing around with this – they arrested the illegal miners and are warning others to stop or face the consequences. According to Mu’azu, the NSCDC found out about the illegal mining from people who were worried about it. The suspects said they had a license to mine, but it turns out they were only allowed to dig for Laterite sand, not coal. Mu’azu made sure that mining at the site was stopped until the right permission is given. The Gombe State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Sanusi Pindiga, stopped all mining in the state after the NSCDC found the illegal site. He told all miners to get checked and approved by the Ministry before they start digging. Pindiga wants miners to think about how their mining affects the environment and the people living nearby. He warned that if miners don’t follow the rules, they’ll be in big trouble. So, if you’re thinking of doing some mining in Nigeria, make sure you do it the right way or else you’ll have to deal with the NSCDC and the Ministry!
