Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has unveiled new mining equipment and announced 15 new mining licenses aimed at transforming the state’s economy and solid mineral sector. This initiative is expected to foster job creation and reduce reliance on federal allocations as Kogi aims to optimize its mineral resources.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has unveiled the state’s new mining equipment at Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, along with the acquisition of 15 mining licenses. This initiative is expected to position Kogi among states exploiting solid mineral resources, marking a vital step in the state’s economic transformation. Governor Ododo stated that these licenses will significantly enhance the solid minerals sector in Kogi, which possesses substantial deposits of minerals including gold, lithium, and coal.

The governor described the initiative as critical for harnessing natural resources and reducing dependence on federal allocations. He emphasized that the licenses would support large-scale mining operations aimed at ensuring sustainable economic growth. The equipment procured is intended to improve extraction efficiency and create job opportunities for the locals.

Ododo conveyed the state’s commitment to being a principal player in Nigeria’s mining industry and to generating revenue independently from federal aid. He highlighted the urgency of maximizing the state’s natural resources, declaring that Kogi would actively shape its own future through this mining initiative.

Engr. Bashiru Gegu, commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources, stressed the vision for Kogi’s mining sector as a major revenue source. He pointed out the necessity for robust policies, effective equipment, and mining licenses to achieve success in solid minerals development. Gegu confirmed that the Kogi State Solid Mineral Processing Company Limited has secured licenses to kickstart mineral exploration immediately.

The unveiling of new mining equipment and the acquisition of 15 mining licenses marks a significant milestone for Kogi State, aiming to enhance its solid minerals sector and economic independence. Governor Ododo’s commitment to harnessing natural resources is set to create jobs and reduce reliance on federal allocations, while the state seeks to become an influential player in Nigeria’s mining industry. The vision as outlined by Commissioner Gegu highlights the importance of policy and strategic planning in achieving these goals.
